Pick Yourself Up: Women Who Shattered the Golden Age Ceiling

Josephine Baker. Marlene Dietrich. Billie Holliday. Fanny Brice. Ethel Waters. Gertrude Lawrence. Dorothy Fields. And of course, our own Lynn Fontanne.  Even if some of the names have faded, their classic work and songs are an immortal part of our daily lives.  This Mother's Day, join award-winning singer and pianist Eric Yves Garcia in celebrating the indomitable women who defied barriers, stigma, poverty, and exclusion to define their art on their own terms.

Eric will be at Ten Chimneys for Music in the Drawing Room on the Ten Chimneys Estate.  He will be playing the beautiful "Noel Coward Piano" and singing songs of these greats in the mural-filled Drawing Room of the Fabulous Lunts Main House.  This lovely room was the main setting for the Lunts to bring their guests, where the likes of Katharine Hepburn, Laurence Olivier, Helen Hayes, and others were entertained.

Eric Yves Garcia is one of the most coveted, award-winning singer pianists in New York City, as well as London and Paris.  He is the proud recipient of the Margaret Whiting Award and most recently was honored with the Donald F. Smith Award presented at Jazz at Lincoln Center.  Originally hired and mentored by Josephine Baker's adopted son, Jean-Claude, Eric was a longtime favorite and fixture at the keys of Chez Josephine.  His current perch is a lauded residency in the Two E Lounge of the renowned The Pierre Hotel on Fifth Avenue.

"...Incredibly moving and very funny, often both at the same time." The Wall Street Journal

"...A handsome young singer pianist with a genuine star quality." The New York Times
