  • Preserve and Share the buildings, furnishings, collections, and grounds of a national treasure – Ten Chimneys, the estate created by Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne.
  • Serve as a continuing resource and powerful inspiration for theatre, the arts, and the art of living.
  • Offer public programs consistent with the Lunts’ varied interests and core values, while maintaining the integrity and intimacy of this extraordinary estate.

Ten Chimneys is a National Historic Landmark, a “Save America’s Treasures” project site, and is listed in the National Registry of Historic Places. Ten Chimneys is owned by the non-profit 501(C)3 organization Ten Chimneys Foundation, Inc.

From the Desk of Sean Malone, Ten Chimneys Foundation President

Fall 2011

Dear Friends,

This is an exciting time for Ten Chimneys Foundation. Guests and experts throughout the country hail Ten Chimneys as one of the most inspirational and well-run historic sites in America. Historic preservationists call Ten Chimneys a shining example of progressive restoration and creative public access. Civic leaders consult with the Foundation on how to launch and steward mission-driven programming. The top artists and theatre companies continue to eagerly collaborate with Ten Chimneys Foundation – and proudly proclaim that we are transforming the American theatre. There is simply no place like Ten Chimneys – a world-class house museum with a dynamic mission to serve the arts.

The generosity of individual donors makes all of this possible – and I am sincerely grateful.

I don’t need to tell you about the effect the current economic situation is having on nonprofits; funding from individuals, foundations, and government sources is extremely tight. The ever-increasing success of Ten Chimneys Foundation is exhilarating, but the need for funding this year is urgent – more urgent than it’s ever been.

Through organizational efficiency and the growth of our mission-focused programs, only one-sixth of our annual budget needs to be covered by this once-a-year campaign. But the need for that final one-sixth is urgent. The continued success of ongoing preservation and of our programs (estate tours, exhibitions, theatre service and theatre resource programs, high school outreach, play readings, Conversations at Ten Chimneys, and the Lunt-Fontanne Fellowship Program) relies on your response to this request.

Ten Chimneys needs your support. Please consider supporting the annual programs and preservation of Ten Chimneys. It will have an immediate impact – locally and nationally.

Yours most sincerely,

Sean Malone
