Hundreds Celebrate “Wisconsin State Ten Chimneys Day”

May 27, 2009

On Tuesday, May 26th, 200 community members who won free tours of Ten Chimneys, and an additional 100 volunteers, donors, and friends, gathered at Ten Chimneys to celebrate “Wisconsin State Ten Chimneys Day.”

By proclamation of the Governor, the State of Wisconsin recognizes May 26th of every year as TEN CHIMNEYS DAY, paying tribute to the historic significance of Ten Chimneys and the ongoing impact of Ten Chimneys Foundation. The day celebrates the anniversary of the marriage of Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne (1922), the anniversary of Ten Chimneys’ opening to the public as a world-class house museum and national resource for theatre and the arts (2003), and the anniversary of Ten Chimneys’ dedication as a National Historic Landmark (2004).

The festivities included:
9:00 a.m. GROUP PHOTO in the historic Main House Courtyard, recreating the group photo taken six years ago when the gates of Ten Chimneys were (literally) opened to the public – followed by brief REMARKS by Ten Chimneys Foundation President, Sean Malone.
9:30 a.m. Cake and coffee RECEPTION at the Lunt-Fontanne Program Center (donated by Sweetness by Alice and Alterra Coffee).
10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. 200 FREE TOURS of Ten Chimneys. To thank the community for making Ten Chimneys so successful, and to celebrate “Wisconsin State Ten Chimneys Day,” 200 free tours were given away.

Our distinguished guests included:
• Senator Neal Kedzie of Elkhorn
• Representative Stephen Nass of Whitewater
• Mayor Larry Nelson of Waukesha
• Chairwoman Sharon Leair of Genesee
• Walworth County Clerk of Courts Sheila Reiff of Elkhorn
• Professional Actor Richard D. Halverson of Milwaukee
• “2009 Honored Guest” Kathy Hill of Genoa City (won free admission for the entire 2009 tour season at the festivities).

A warm thank you to all of our guests for joining us on such a joyous occasion.
