KT Sullivan Delights during Music in the Drawing Room

April 23, 2009

For three sold-out audiences on April 17th and 18th, Ten Chimneys Foundation presented MUSIC IN THE DRAWING ROOM, featuring New York Cabaret star KT SULLIVAN. Ms. Sullivan awed the audiences with her beautiful voice and lovely stories and anecdotes surrounding Noël Coward, Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne.

Damien Jaques, the Journal Sentinel’s theater critic, had this to say about the event, “The 85-minute set, which she performed three times over two nights, featured a lengthy segment of Coward-written songs, including “London Pride,” the patriotic tonic he composed while bombs were falling on his beloved England. Virtually everything in the show had some sort of connection to the Lunts, even an aria from “Die Fledermaus…Like all good cabaret artists, Sullivan interprets songs with creative insight, and her patter between the music is enlivened by an engaging personal style. Her show was filled with Lunts and Ten Chimneys factoids and anecdotes…Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne must have smiled, where ever they are.” For more information, http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/entertainment/43249162.html.

Since 2005, Ten Chimneys has welcomed nationally-renowned cabaret artists to perform at the historic Noël Coward Piano. Performances take place in the Main House and offer guests a rare and intimate experience in the stunning Drawing Room, the very setting where the likes of Katharine Hepburn, Laurence Olivier, or Helen Hayes were entertained by a song from Noël Coward.

About KT Sullivan:

Audiences have flocked to see Ms. Sullivan at Carnegie Hall, the Algonquin Hotel, Lincoln Center, Café Sabarsky, The Spoleto Festival, Town Hall, The New York Historical Society, La Nouvelle Eve in Paris, and as a guest star on Garrison Keillor’s Prairie Home Companion. Ms. Sullivan’s Broadway credits include The Three Penny Opera with Sting, and the acclaimed revival of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. She made her West End debut in 2004 and has returned annually in shows featuring music from Noël Coward to Comden & Green. The award-winning Ms. Sullivan has recorded numerous albums; guest starred on countless television shows, and was given the Manhattan Association of Cabaret’s Outstanding Female Vocalist Award by Liza Minnelli.
Her headlining show at the Algonquin Hotel has garnered rave reviews, yet is hardly Ms. Sullivan’s first New York Times credit. An earlier review gave what may be the perfect description of her talent and performing style – “In the language of Cole Porter: oo-la-la-la! C’est magnifique!”
