Legendary performer and Tony Award winner, Pearl Bailey, refused to be defined by the color of her skin. Although she was often criticized for her assimilationist views, it was she who had the last laugh, befriending and performing for more presidents than any female performer, before or since. She was not only a performer, but also a writer and special delegate to the United Nations. When challenged for her views, she navigated those tricky waters the only way she knew how – through her music. We’ll see her life unfold through a series of flashbacks that include some of her most memorable songs.
Just as the Lunts collaborated with playwrights, actors, and directors in developing new work, Ten Chimneys Foundation continues the tradition as we welcome Art Manke, playwright and award-winning director, Sheldon Epps, theater and television director, Rahn Coleman, musical director, record producer, and composer, and actors E. Faye Butler, Rob Nagel, and Sarah Hollis for a stage reading of Pearl’s in the House at Ten Chimneys.
Tickets: $40/$70/$100 per person.
